this is a trail i have hiked many, many times. it seems every year i do this somewhat annual challenge this trail is on the list. there is a short steep hill at the end of the trail, i remember back in the peak of my exercising days, the first time i took this hill at a normal pace (not lumbering up the hill) and topped it without becoming short of breath, i was so excited! i started hiking again briefly after the first knee surgery, and then i injured the second knee and that put an end to my hiking days, i went on a three year exercising hiatus and am just now getting back into the habit. this is one of the reason i am doing the hiking challenge this year. i had dubbed this little hill no knees hill, today i am excited to tell you i did it again! on todays walk i reclaimed no knees hill!
the boston run trail was actually part of a motorbike trail back in 1972, the national park acquired the land, rerouted some of the trail and reopened it as a cross country ski trail. normally i am a big attractions kinda hiker, waterfalls, huge mossy rocks, giant trees, that sort of thing. this trail meanders through the woods, it’s a very peaceful hike, but a very quiet one too. i had actually intended to hike this trail before i left for michigan, the sunday morning i had set aside for it, it rained and i hit the gym instead. this trail is very hilly and very steep in places. today while i was out hiking i came across a park employee laying sand down in the really muddy parts of the trail.
it is a good place for a peaceful quiet stroll.

as it winds it’s way through the valley, i came across a beautiful brilliant dragonfly.

at the end of the trail there is this sign,

preceding no knees hill,

this photo totally does not do it justice, you can’t tell just how steep it is, trust me it ain’t easy!
this photo was not taken on my hike this morning, it was taken yesterday, in my backyard. this little guy is living under the shed. i came home today and he was sitting on his back legs eating an apple from that little apple tree next to the shed.

i have decided to name him carl, after carl spackler, bill murray’s character in caddy shack.

while i was gone the daises mom gave me have bloomed,

and the blackeyed susans are starting to open, this is the first year they have come back, so i am really excited to see them blooming this year.
