families come in all shapes and sizes. i am one of the fortunate ones. my parents have been married for over fifty years. something nearly unheard of in this day and age. my family goes beyond my parents, brothers and sisters. we have adopted many people, like toby. my adopted grandmother. never mind that she is only three years older than my dad. i told her i have parents, i don’t have grandparents, so she gladly stepped up to the role. i have on sil, one bil. three nieces, and three nephews. this thanksgiving we are hoping to welcome another new family member into the fold. one of my sister’s friends just lost her parents one month apart, and toby, mom, and sharon are working on getting her to join us for thanksgiving. she has no family in the area.
tonight, however, was about another family. my bil’s mother turned eighty. they threw a party for her. my bil invited our family and although i felt hypocritical, since i know the birthday girl isn’t all that found of me, i went anyway, for george’s sake (my bil). i had a good time, as always i enjoyed spendingtime with george’s dad herman. herman makes me smile, eighty six years old, he got up and recited a poem he wrote to his wife, from memory. it was amazing. i just love to talk to herman.
my youngest niece lexie was there wearing a sweater i made for her for christmas one year. i wanted to take measurements to gete an idea of what to knit her this year, but have you ever tried to take measurements on a monkey?

the main topic of conversation at our dinner table was all about babies. my brother and his wife are adopting another baby. he was born on wednesday november 5th, 11:38 a.m. weighs just over seven pounds and is twentyone inches long. baby has no name as of yet. they go to court monday to get guardianship and will begin the adoption process. baby will be home on monday, in plenty of time for thanksgiving. how appropriate.
