yarn overs are the debil! it’s been a long day. i had a project picked out to knit today, a small one i could get done in a day, or so i thought. i was making a hat. i picked out a pattern that had yo’s. i knew there were yo’s and given our history together i perused the pattern to see how involved this was going to be. it was actually fairly straight forward. my mistake was forgetting that when it comes to yo’s there is nothing straightforward. i spent the entire day happily knitting away, following the pattern to a tee. i even went so far as to think to myself, this is going well. i tempted the fates, no doubt the knitting gods thought i was mocking them. i finished the hat. it looked small. i had followed the pattern, it was an eight row repeat, it was suppose to measure four inches from the hem before starting the crown, it did. i measured it before i started the decreases and holding this tiny hat in my hands i measured it again, still four inches, just like the pattern said. i decided to try it on. it didn’t even come down to my ears. if the recipient of this yarny goodness was jewish in need of a kippah it would be fine. she is not, however, jewish. (nor does she have a freakishly small head) i tried to frog back to the decreases the yo part of the pattern but i was unable to distinguish all the stitches, such is my plight with yo’s, and i ended up frogging the entire thing.
~sigh~ i’ll start again tomorrow.
