it’s done. almost. the knitting is done. i started this blanket in october, plenty of time to get it done before dad’s birthday at the end of november. his birthday is november 29th, just two weeks away. i had a one pound skein of yarn, it sounded like a lot, it looked like a lot. i thought for sure i could knit him an afghan out of that one skein of yarn. he’s always complaining about his legs being cold, in fact the last time i spoke with him on the phone he mentioned it again. i decided last year to knit him a blanket for his birthday, i was three quarters of the way through block number eight when i ran out of yarn. i couldn’t believe it. i tried in vain to get another skein of yarn in the same color, but to no avail. it was a no dye lot yarn, one of my first yarn purchases back when i first started knitting four years ago. i could find lighter or darker shades but nothing even close. so i faced the inevitable. i had to frog it. two weeks of my time gone in an instant. i had to start over. i frogged down to square one and started knitting again. i finally finished it and now it is blocking.

i’ll sew it up next thursday on my day off and then all that’s left to do is wrap it. you know what they say about the best laid plans. oh and by the way, square eight? the one i ran out of yarn part way through on? you betcha, yo’s.
