i finished the knitting on dad’s afghan over the weekend. it inspired me to work on my own afghan. i have so many ufo’s piling up i have been slowly trying to get some of them finished. i picked up the afghan after almost a year and i noticed i had not quite a full skein of yarn. i seemed to recall that it took one and a half skeins to make a square. i had a little bit of yarn left over from another skein but the dye lot wasn’t the same, so i tried mixing them together, alternating rows and it gave it a striped effect, very noticeable.

that was the last block on that strip, so i started the next one. i had plenty of yarn, a full skein this time. i knit the entire thing and still had plenty of yarn left. that’s when it hit me. it’s not one and a half skeins per block, it’s one and a half blocks per skein. i finished the last strip and then went back to that first block. i decided to re-do it. instead of frogging it, i took a short cut, literally.

i cut through the yarn i didn’t want to use, the more faded of the two colors.

i cut a few inches above the color i wanted to use and then frogged it back.

i frogged it back to the garter row and pulled out the last row of garter stitches. i then slipped them back on the needle and re-knit the last garter row so i could do the increases and be certain that i had the correct number of stitches.

i started working the pattern, it’s a ten row repeat for sixty rows, i got thirty rows done last night. i should finish the last square tomorrow and block it wednesday night. hopefully it will be dry by the weekend and then i can start sewing it together.
