too many bad books in the world

second nature by alice hoffman

alice hoffman is one of my favorite authors, although honestly it can be hit or miss with her. this book was a hit. one of her earlier works,  it was a good story with lots of surprises. (of course there are dead people, you weren’t really surprised now were you?)

blue diary by alice hoffman

loved this book, finished it in two days.  my heart really went out to the character of  jorie. as per usual, there are dead people!

knitting in tuscany by nicky epstein

seriously, it is a knitting pattern book, but way more. although i didn’t care for every pattern in the book i did enjoy reading about the different cities in the tuscan region that she visited. she offers history of the area, history of knitting in the area as well as travel tips and the names and addresses to local yarn stores. it’s a knitter’s guide to tuscany. she even offers a few recipes in the back of the book.

in the company of the courtesan by sarah dunant

i had high hopes for this book, i really liked the birth of venus by sarah dunant, but after a week i had read less than a hundred pages, it was slow going and painful. i couldn’t take it anymore and it went back to the library.

fortune’s daughter by alice hoffman

i like alice hoffman, but it’s hit or miss with her. while i read second nature and blue diary  in just a few days, i was on page 188 out of 307 when i gave up on this book. i had no idea what was going on with the characters because i just couldn’t bring myself to care. the two main female characters lily, and rae weren’t even likable. this went back to the library unfinished.

at risk by alice hoffman

i read 146 out of 219 pages and took it back to the library. the material was dated and the characters one dimensional. as i said before, with alice hoffman it’s hit and miss, this was another miss.

transgressions by sarah dunant

i seem to be running into a lot of duds lately. the synopsis on the cover sounded good, but as they say, you can not judge a book by it’s cover. i read five chapters of this book and went it back to the library. five chapters of this chicks losing her cd, replacing it and losing it again, i kid you not.

dead and gone by charlaine harris

the very latest in the sookie stackhouse series, this one left me flat. once again we are dragging around redundant characters, alcide herveaux, and quin all make brief and pointless appearances. i was very sad at the death of claudine although she died knitting. ( gotta love it!)

payback by margaret atwood

it took an hour to read less than thirteen pages and i still had no idea what she was talking about. dropped this one off at the library less than 24 hours after i attempted to read it.

positivity for today. i have been sick for two days, and by the time i get home, i have no voice left at all, but every day i get greated by a certain kitty, telling me all about her day.
